The Road to Recovery

Hello! My name is Sue Rosin and I am a registered Sports Masseur (Level 4) and member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT).  I love participating in sports in Formby and whilst I have no special sporting ability, I enjoy challenging myself and meeting like-minded people.  Participating in sporting activities is fun and I love feeling strong and healthy.

In 2018 I retrained as a sports massage therapist.  I am “hypermobile” and after carrying out a desk job (of 20ish years) and competing in a wide variety of sports,  I had various niggles and issues that stopped me from participating in my sports as well as impacting my daily life.

Sports Massage for all

I found that having a sports massage was the only treatment that dissipated my pain and discomfort.  During the periods of being out of action, I became fascinated with the benefits of sports massage, anatomy, and physiology.  I feel totally blessed to now work in a role that helps others find relief from discomfort, help prevent injuries and assist others to take on their own personal challenges.

I hope to make sports massage accessible to others and highlight the health benefits …. whether you are a triathlete or a c25k, if you wish to compete for a personal best or just cross a finish line, my advice to you is to incorporate sports massage into your life.

What is a Sports Massage?

Who can benefit?

Muscles that are worked hard will sometimes suffer from adhesion and hypertonicity. This is when a part or the whole of a muscle becomes chronically contracted due to a lack of proper hydration, excessive use or overexertion, or damage to it through injury.

Adhesions are often known as a “muscle knot” and this area is more tender to touch.  Muscle adhesions and hypertonicity impact the functionality of the muscle and this will then impact the muscle’s flexibility which can lead to a loss of range of movement.

Sports Massage is a type of deep tissue massage with the main aim to break down adhesions, and internal scar tissue, reduce hypertonicity and promote tissue flexibility.

A sports massage will help realign layers of muscles and release any tension in the myofascial tissue.  Sports massage will incorporate a wide variety of techniques such as trigger point therapy, soft tissue release, dry cupping, dry needling and facilitated stretching, PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation), and compression.

Everyone!!! You don’t have to be sporty 🙂

It is particularly useful for anyone suffering from postural or emotional stress, anyone with manual, labour-intensive roles as well as desk workers. I offer remedial massage as well as sports massage.

These are some of the injuries that Rosin Sports Recovery could help to ease:

  • Lower back pain
  • Whiplash
  • Muscle/Tendon strain or sprain
  • Muscle tension
  • Tennis & Golfers elbow
  • Sciatica
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Osteoarthritis pain
  • Migraines
  • Hip Pain

Sports Massage Benefits

Sports massage and myofascial release not only encourages the healing process when the body is injured, it also reduces the chances of an injury.

1.

It provides an improved circulatory effect of both blood and lymph fluids, helping to maintain the muscles and soft tissue in an optimum state of nutrition.

2.

Reduces hypertonicity of the muscles creating improved tone, flexibility, and relaxation, as well as promoting overall muscle balance.

3.

It enables you to recover rapidly and completely from injury. This reduces the likelihood of chronic problems and further injury.

4.

Reduces muscle soreness, pain, cramping, and spasm.

5.

Directly benefits the muscular, skeletal, nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic systems.

When Should I Have Sports Therapy?

Sports therapy can be broken down into three main types, which will help you decide when the best time to consider a sports massage.

They can be taken before an event where you may be required to use your muscles extensively, following an event to help the body’s tissues recover, or after incurring an injury in order to return your muscles to proper working order.

Pre-event Massage

These types of massages are a vital part of a person’s warm-up for an event to help increase the flow of blood through your muscles. This ensures they are prepared to exert a lot of energy and reduces the likelihood of fatigue. A pre-event massage will also help to increase the flexibility of your muscles and the range of motion they can endure. It involves stretching and toning the muscles.

Post-Event Massage

After putting a lot of pressure on your muscles during a heavy exercise they will need to recover. Post event treatment will assist in breaking down adhesions and scar tissue.

Restorative and Rehabiliative Massages

Sometimes there is simply nothing that will prepare you for an injury that will leave your muscles in pain. If left untreated, even the smallest of sports injuries could later lead to major damage that will set you back for weeks. Sports massage treatment can be a crucial part of your restorative treatment in order to remedy the damage.

Over a duration of treatments, these rehabilitative massages will help alleviate the pain and make sure your muscles are prepared for future events so that the same wounds will not be repeated.

Dry Needling Benefits

Dry Needling can provide structural, biochemical, and electrical changes in the properties of muscle. Dry needles help the muscle to function more effectively, reducing recovery time. At  Rosin Sports Recovery we use a solid filament needle to affect the musculoskeletal system positively and is used to “reset” the musculoskeletal system.

1.

Dry needling is an effective technique for the treatment of muscular or Neuro-musculoskeletal injuries.

It has shown improvement in the mobility of the muscles treated.

2.

Facilitates tissue repair after an injury; reduces inflammation related to tendonitis, arthritis, impingement, or stress fracture.

3.

Dry needling can reduce pain; therefore reducing the patient’s need for pain medication.

(For those of you not keen on needles, the needles used are much smaller than a typical needle used by doctors)

Dry Cupping Benefits

Cupping is a safe, traditional treatment that helps resolve chronic muscle tightness and pain faster than massage therapy alone.  The suction from the cups increases circulation to the area where the cups are placed. The additional blood flow to that area can help relieve muscle tension and promote cell repair. Cupping gives your body a boost in releasing those toxins. Focused blood flow helps your body by flushing built-up toxins through the lymphatic system. (Your lymphatic system is responsible for eliminating your body’s toxins and waste.)

What People are Saying

“Neck and Upper Back”

I initially saw Sue to sort out my painful neck and upper back. I see her regularly to keep my back and neck in good order. She has given me great advice and shown me stretches which have been invaluable particularly as I increased the range and intensity of exercises. She is professional and knowledgeable and I recommend her highly.

“Fabulous service”

Just had a sports massage. I have a long term lower back problem. Sue did a very good treatment and asked lots of questions about the problem.

Look forward to continuing treatment with her and the overall treatment was excellent. Helped relieve a lot of stress in my shoulders which I didn’t realize I was carrying around.

Would highly recommend. “

“Ultra-endurance preparation”

I went to see Sue to treat back and shoulder pain before an ultra-endurance event. Se was fantastic, loosening the muscles and making me feel better straight away. Would thoroughly recommend!.

“Car Accident Rehab”

An absolutely amazing lady, my shoulder never recovered from a car accident, I tried three different physiotherapists but it never did a thing and then I was told only a steroid injection would help improve it. But four sport appointments therapies later, it’s completely gone and that was a year ago. I’m back again with back problems but Sue is the nicest person, whom I highly recommend, she is always available on short notice and with no doubt I’ll be right again soon..”
